About This Role
As a Lead Mechatronics Engineer, you will work with our Hardware Practice Lead and other hardware engineers to deliver high-value electro-mechanical system designs to our clients. Our goal is to rethink and retool the hardware engineering process to align it with modern software, design and data science development methods.
What You’ll Be Working On
For this role we’re looking for polymath hardware engineers who are experts in MCAD and have a familiarity with ECAD. Some of the traits we are looking for include:
- Previous experience designing and testing electro-mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) practices for electrical and mechanical.
Familiarity with:
- Microprocessors, microcontrollers, IoT communications protocols, and common sensors
- Hardware prototyping tools (3D printers, soldering, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, etc)
- Low-level embedded firmware or embedded Linux
- Data collection techniques

Outcomes
- Delivery of mechanical/electrical hardware that meets the time, budget, and feature needs of Very’s customers.
- Successful design and execution of hardware releases and test plans.
- Project team adherence to Very’s standard of best practices across all engineering disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Work a target of 38 hours per week on a Very client engagement.
- Serve as a Tech Lead overseeing the technical delivery on Very’s client engagements.
- Oversee and/or design electronic/mechanical hardware for Very’s client engagements.
- Serve as a technical interviewer in Very’s interview process.
- Support sales in sales activities and statement of work generation.
- Work with the Director of Hardware to improve standards and processes for hardware delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
- BS or higher in a related engineering field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc)
- 5+ years of relevant experience

Can negotiate for positive outcomes with clients on projects that are any size, and any level of difficulty. Leans into complex conversations and effectively addresses escalated situations resulting in team/client alignment.
- Independently resets the tone of the team or environment. Redirects the team and client when needed on complex projects. Negotiates positive outcomes by incorporating ideas and opinions from internal and external resources. Thoughtfully considers all outcomes before jumping to change. Is decisive, direct and respectful when communicating alternate solutions and ideas to influence for buy-in or change.
- Teaches best practices and grows the capabilities of others.
- Estimates are highly accurate across a wide array of technical domains. They use their knowledge to help their team provide accurate estimates about work across an entire project.
- Demonstrates mastery of working within an agile framework; Knows how to break down technical work into tickets, sprints, and epics without assistance.
Ideal Additional Qualifications/Experience:
- 10+ years of experience
- M.S.+ in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or closely related field

Compensation
Base Compensation
Between USD $120,000 and $150,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
Variable Compensation
Up to 15% in the first year
